Via Baltica Nordica Development Zone project

The Via Baltica Nordica project forms a coherent development zone from Berlin to Mo i Rana in Norway. The idea is to collaborate in the development of the regions within the zone. The project focuses on the development of tourism, the accessibility of railroad transportation, landscape planning and the development of a geographical information system in the Via Baltica Nordica zone.

Municipalities, cities, regions and development organisations in Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Germany are participating in the project. In addition, the Kaliningrad Region is taking part in the project as an observer. Finnish regions participating in the project are Häme, Tampere Region, South Ostrobothnia, Ostrobothnia and North Savo, and a number of cities are also taking part. The project is financed by the Interreg III B programme for the Baltic Sea Region. The programme period is 2002-2005. WFA-INNO

The aim of the WFA INNO project is to develop a system to support businesses and public administration by producing up-to-date reliable information on technology development and the demands of the innovative environment.

The aim is to enhance the innovative environment and institutional structures for technology transfer and utilisation. Thus the expertise networks of forecasting, analysis and information procurement can accelerate the application of knowledge to businesses and strengthen regional development. The project is being carried out from 1 January 2003 to 28 February 2005. The Regional Council of Satakunta is coordinating the project.

IANIS project

The 28 European regions are participating in the IANIS project and form an interregional network for exchanging information, experiences and good practices though electronic information exchanges, virtual news bulletins, workshops, seminars, annual meetings and policy forums. A central database of materials and reports (e-Region Hub) is also maintained for developers of the information society.
