Welcome to the West Finland Alliance

The Regional Councils of Central Finland, Ostrobothnia, Satakunta, South Ostrobothnia and the Council of Tampere Region form a strategic coalition called the West Finland Alliance (WFA). Its goals are cooperation and the promotion of common interests at the national and international levels.

The area of the West Finland Alliance consists of five regions, 23 sub-regions and 105 municipalities. The population is 1.3 million, i.e. 26 % of the total population of Finland. The land area is 65,000 sq km, which is twice the size of Belgium. The area contains four universities and eight local units of universities, seven polytechnics and two local units of polytechnics, and seven technology centres.

The WFA’s wide range of know-how and expertise involves cooperation between globally active enterprises and their subcontractors, universities, polytechnics, technology centres and centres of expertise. A broad and brilliant cultural spectrum supports the vitality of the area and – together with the rich natural environment – provides a good basis for the further development of tourism.
